Chameleon Project Concert Review

(Croydon Advertiser 10/30/98)

Comment: Chameleon Group of Composers endeavors to promote contemporary music and occasionally music which otherwise would not be heard. For this concert, which had been made possible by the friendly support of the Croydon Council, it had been our aim to present music of composers linked with Croydon - one of the largest boroughs of London. Two of the composers, Coleridge-Taylor and Hurlstone, lived around the turn of 1900 and contributed significantly to the music scene in London. Smith Brindle, one of the leading composers in Britain along side with composers Taylor, Esterbrook, Hofmann-Engl, Monk and Paremeswaren all have links with Croydon.

However, the unreceptive response from the press and the limited interest shown by the Coleridge-Taylor Society will unforunately make it difficult to repeat such an event in the near future. Chameleon Group of Composers will continue with its work on national and international projects.
